Witness roughed up at forum Story by SAMMY CHEBOI Publication Date: 7/8/2008 Booing and heckling marked the hearing into issues surrounding last year’s General Election in Eldoret.“The election was not fair even before the polling day. Two of our rallies in Eldoret North Constituency were disrupted by youths. Some houses belonging to our supporters were burnt after Mr Ruto visited the area,” Mr William Rono said Nominated councillor James Sang (centre) interrupts Mr William Rono (left) who was presenting his views during the hearing of the Independent Review Commission led by Mr Justice Johann Kriegler. The team is investigating flaws in the electoral. Monday's hearing was held at the Eldoret Town Hall. Charged at him Mr Rono’s allegations led to a commotion as some members of the public charged at him. But the police intervened and he was safely led out of the Municipal Town Hall, the venue of the meeting.Commission chairman Johan Kriegler appealed for tolerance, saying everybody had a right to be heard. “We will indicate in our report for all Kenyans and the world to know that we could not get the views of the people of Eldoret because of riots. We came here for a meeting and not riots,” a visibly agitated Justice Kriegler told the gathering. Residents also demanded that the Grand Coalition Government be disbanded, saying it does not represent their democratic wishes. “The Coalition Government is a sham. It does not represent our wishes. We know that election results were cooked as Kivuitu admitted to the nation. Why did President Kibaki agree to share his victory if he knew he won fairly?” Mr Jackson Kibor, an Uasin Gishu politician, asked. A text message, allegedly from a senior politician from the area, was circulated, raising tension in the hall. It instructed recipients not to allow people to “intimidate them in their own backyard”. Many expressed satisfaction with the way the media relayed events at Kenyatta International Conference Centre, the tallying centre for the presidential votes. “I salute the media for what it did during the entire process. I was particularly satisfied with the way it relayed events at KICC,” Mr Mike Katam said. But pollsters were criticised for stage-managing poll results “in an effort to justify the impending election rigging”. Political parties Residents also suggested that Parliament be mandated to approve the appointment of electoral commissioners on the basis of the 1997 Inter-Party Parliamentary Group (IPPG) agreement that allowed political parties to nominate commissioners. Commissioners Lucy Kambuni and Catherine Mumma accompanied Justice Kriegler.

Lack of tolerance is self evident here.Innate result to violence rather than reason is all too clear.Justice Kriegler so eloquently told them that for their lack of emotional control;which homo sapiens are expected to exhibit;will deny them their right to be heard what an unfortunate and pathetic occurrence! I do support that there be instituted civics classes in the educational system to teach people citizenship, patriotism and democratic ideals. There are democratic values that dictate that civilized citizens should not infringe on others' right to self expression(freedom of speech),right to ownership and enjoyment of property. Why are you filled with so much hatred, Mzalendo? If I do not agee with your point of view, I dont necessarily have to hate you.If you do not agree with what the First lady does, please DO NOT HATE. Disagree with her gentlemanly. Tear down her actions/ommissions but avoid hatred. It will eat to your core and leave you an empty shell rotting inside.
psst. If you cant help it, move over to Mashada. They wont mind you.

Ngii Ndune, I am with you on this one. Let the truth be told, however bitter. The opnly way we shall get to the root of the problem and avaoid a repeat performance is washing out dirty linen in public. Let the architects of rapes, cold blooded civilian murders, house burning be exposed, no matter their position in society.
Seems some peopel are scared of the truth.

Kind of out of the subject but since it popped up.
Could someone please explain the "First Lady" syndrome for me.
Is it something Kenya has picked up from the US? Or are some Kenyans simply yearning for a queen or similar?
A presidents wife, first, second or both, has nothing to do with the administration of a country, right? Unless she is a admnistrator herself of course. If not she/they is/are a wife/s and nothing more. They have not qualified to enter the political scene - so they should stay out of it.
Mrs Clinton, previous first, or was it second, lady, managed to become a local politician. Fine. I presume it was based on her experience, she qualified and was elected. When some people wanted her to become number one for the democrats they used the arguments that she had been the "first lady" and that she had "experience from the white house". Being married to a brain surgeon does not make one. Is Dr Mutuas wife a good persuader? Does one become a good clown being married to one?
There was a time when the Kenyan newspapers wrote about the "First Lady" on a daily basis and I had to ask one of the editors in chief why. He said it 'sells'. Sad.
I think it would be great to not hear anything about any so called "First Ladies" from any country anymore. Do your country a good favour: ignore the whole "First Lady" syndrome. Close them out. Don't make them the "Kings and gueens" they want to be. Let them live their life in privacy and maybe wave their hand and some silly banquet now and then.
Weather the second half is in charge at home or not is another issue... but still their private issue. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Nini,

Agree. Truth has be told, however bitter, and some are definatley scared of it. The architects of rapes, cold blooded civilian murders, house burning should be exposed, no matter their position in society. Let's not also forget the politicians and public administrators that failed the people they are working for by mismanaging the voting and being unable to control the situation.
We shall also all have to remember what happen. Maybe a memorial should be created to not forget. When all the dirty linnen are washed there is a good chance to be able to forgive.

The short answer is that kaRucy wa Kifaki has some "marbles problems".
The long answer is that, she is not the only one with this problem.
The right answer is that, we Kenyans pay her 500K to make sure she stays "fit".
The no-answer is that, her usband does not care.
LOL!!!!

Wamax, This is a guy who even when being warned to stop it by the moderator couldn't see beneath ethnicity to understand we're different from whence he came from(mashada and the like). He wants us to join him in his deranged and degenerated mind and ways.I guess that is how nduriri 'gentlemen' behave! Remember the wife of Mugabe Were being shoved about? A lady bereaved was game to strong able bodied men, just like little kids, women and the old in the rift valley!Well that is the same kind of nduriri behavior we're dealing with here!
