I met many east africans that are, generally speaking, much more conservative when it comes to food than for example europeans, in general.
Some of my friends, from Kenya and Uganda, wount even concider trying different food then what mama serv.
Any idea why?

(Reservation: My conslusion might be wrong, I might have met more conservative people than the general population etc. Aware of possible statistical errors etc.)

I will be more clear in my question.

Why does not people from any part in the world like the rotten putrid herring we serve here, where I come from?

It takes at least one year to produce this delicacy: put the fresh whole untouched herring in a barrel, fill with water, close, leave it for one year and when it is about to explode, open and feast!

All foreigners, accept for the japanese, think it is horrible. Me no understand.
Its even good for the stomach; already digested!

Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Well, at least most people like the smooked salmon.

Elaboration:
The herring from the explosive barrels is sold as "Sour Herring" (directly translated).
I think a more appropriate translation would be "Fermented Baltic Herring".
And as many other things we eat where I am born, it is not boiled before going to the barrel, not after the barrel and not before reaching you plate!
Big Grin
Imagine if the africans could start to eat unboiled food. It would save a lot women from walking far to get fire wood!
More fermented fish, raw meat and green sallad in Africa! Wink

Wangu,
One isn't necessarily born with courage, like Nini is but one is born with potential. Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency. We can't be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest.

Don't start me up on the gender nini... Mad
In my country the women SAY they want to do what men do, but when it is time to do it, they don't. Big Grin

Anyway, I said carry, not cutting... Big Grin
I have mostly seen women carrying fire wood in kikuyu land, and the kikuyu women are supposed to be the strongest women on earth. Generally, that most be, cause I have met one kiuk woman on very close range that would certainly not carry anything. Not even her own problems...

Prepare it. Was thinking of rotten tilapia, since herring is hard to find in Kenya Big Grin

There is a story, true or not I don't know, about the days when the russians passed by quite often in our country to plunder.
In one village by the north coast the people took their things and run into the forest.
but the barrels with herrings where left behind.
When the russians opened the barrels they concluded that these people must be very poor, eating rotten fish so they took off.

One good thing with that fish anyway.
