I agree that Demathhew is one of the most talented artists not just in Kukuyuland, but Kenya as a whole, and that is the problem, because if he misuses his talents, it can create untold havoc. Sang did not through a spear, or wield a machete, but through his mouthpiece, he is a culpable as those bloodthirsty mobs that slaughtered the innocent.
Demathew's recent rebuke of Peter Kenneth just because he was exercising his democratic rights is a clear case of racism. He might not have said it so, but we all know what he was alluding to.
In many of his songs, he promotes the gospel of Kikuyu dominance; I have not heard of his advocacy of tribal harmony. Do not get me wrong, as a Kikuyu, I will always defend the Kikuyus or any other ethnic group that is wrongly accused, but I reject the notion mostly propagated by many Kikuyu musicians that Kikuyus belong to a higher hierarchy compared to other Kenyans.
Wo unto the women, with the demise of Queen Jane, women's voice in Kikuyu music has suffered a great deal. The fact that the majority male only espouse a worldview from the male point of view sound like male chauvinism to me.
