Ngunjiri, Ngeithi nyingi. it is good that you have highlighted this issue of shares, again, here.i am very grateful. However, i storngly feel that we should start a stocks forum here in kikuyu.com so we can share info from each other and possibly be more enlightened on this. Papa daad, there was some talk of a kikuyu investment club.......how far are we?

It would be a lovely idea if that was to come to maturation. I hear the likes of transcentury, ICDC and the like started like that and today the move the world. A forum to share information about shares would be a welcome addition here for starters.
Well, the fact is that there is a share craze in Kenya right now. It has nothing to do with taking adavantage of Uganda. Any share that come to market in Kenya is being oversubscribed which show that peopel are just hungry for shares, it is only that they are not available. While it is not good for Uganda to have their companies owned by Kenyan, the Kenyan speculators are not to blame. The Ugandan Capital Market authority is to blame fornot setting up the rules to ensure that the majority of the shares go to teh Ugandans.
The picture is more complicated. Even in Kenya, it is not just everybody who is owning shares, some cliques have formed companies specifically for that purpose. In the end, some greedy speculators will be laughing all the way to the bank, and the Ugandans will hate 'greedy Kenyans' without knowing that very few individuals actually benefit

Well Sajini, I dont like the idea of Kenyans owning places in here but since the Ugandans dont really care, ..somebody has to do something.
You know why doesnt Uganda and Kenya just add up and make one country UGANDA. i think its size would be close to Tanzania's. Uganda is practically run by you guys.
Maria, I like that, Amin once claimed that Uganda extended all the way to Naivasha and this was true. This makes me a Ugandan in a sense. The colonial boundaries have denied me my Ugandan identity.

I think if we are one we would be more productive. History is important.I liked Amin for one thing..He thought he knew what he was talking about...and funny enough he was always right.hhmm.. who knows where Uganda would be now had the Indians stayed...
Maria Your appraisal of Idd Amin remind me of the story of the blind men and the elephant. Each perceived the elephant differently depending on the part they touched.
Now that the Indians are coming back, would yopu say that Uganda is getting better or worse?

well, Sajini, haha...yeah well,i dont like Idi Amin,i never even saw him..i wasnt even born yet.I was born when Museveni was already president so i havent faced the hard life.
Uganda would be another Kenya had the Indians stayed back then. Now thats why there are many Kenyans here...wazungus (and maybe the Indians who sought refuge in Kenya) are taking your space. I think we have enough time to work out this Indians problem. If only Museveni wasnt benefiting personally cuz he is just giving away land and forests to "investors" ... i see Indians coming back. But not to worry; Museveni is going come 2010(or when the next elections will be ).I am no politician. No love for it either.
Are you sure Museveni will go? He might leave the scene, but still continue to pull the strings. And I am not sure that Bessigye or whoever will come after him will be any different.
I do love politics, not just in my contry, but everywhere in the world. However, i do no believe that politics should only be identified with political office.
By the way, the Indians in Kenay are gradually being edged out, not with any legistlation or decrees, but people are learning of ways to compete with them.

So, the same thing will happen here. we wont let the Indians take control.
Honestly, I dont see Museveni going anywhere. well, unless he is assassinated,of course. Besigye is just like him.... we need a non-munyankole to take over. Then there will be change for sure.
my dad is a politician and from what i have seen all my life; politics is the last thing i want to get involved in ever.
what if the company enters bankruptcy and we have bought shares. where do we gain? what if the bank is closed sometime, or bought..are the stockholders paid?
If the bank goes broke and has to default on loans, the shareholders are not liable in any way-right? However, all money obtained by converting assets into cash will be used to repay loans and other debts first, so that shareholders cannot receive any money unless and until creditors have been paid (most often the shareholders end up with nothing).
Being a stockholder is risky. Now,when is it safe to become one?
