“Are you black or are you white – I can’t tell”

• Young children spend a lot of time and energy comparing themselves to others, understanding how they fit into the family and school, and deciding about their identity.
• During early childhood is usually when biracial children begin to ask about their identity.

Biracial Celebrities

• Tiger Woods
• Played on the PGA Golf Tour

• Halle Berry
• Former Miss Ohio
• 1st runner-up in the Miss USA pageant
• Model/Actress

Raising a biracial son who is Black and White can be difficult for some parents and the child; it can be even more difficult for a single White female raising a Black son alone.
quote:
“My mom works at a private school. As she was walking by some students the other day at summer school. She over heard a teenage biracial girl (her mother is white, father is black) talking to some white boys about another biracial boy who was 1/2 mexican and 1/2 black. She asked them what race was the boy's mother, the white boys said his mother was black and father was Mexican. The girl said "Uuhh, black mothers are ugly"! My mom said if she weren't in a rush she would have addressed. She said she's going to address that soon.”

quote:
“This really steams me up!!! Im a black mother and a fine one at that. I wonder if her parents know what they are doing to this girl by teaching her self-hatred. This is only going to go breed itself into the next generation of hers. I wonder what she is going to do when she has children, and no matter what color that husband will be, some of those kids will be darker. I wonder what she'll do then? Maybe when she reaches the real world, she will be corrected.”

Maybe it’s not such a good idea.

BUT GOD CREATED US EQUAL SO WHY SHOULD IT BE A PROBLEM?

an anecdote comes into my mind when hearing such issues...
a white anthropologist made his trip in the middle of africa and met a tribe there. they greeted him heartily showed all their habits and traditions to him. in the evening, after the saral dance the white man had a chat with the oldest man of the tribe.
- the traditions of the colored tribes always amuse me - said the scientist.
- hmm, colored... - grinned the old man.
- look, my son, i am black. i was born black and i will die black. you are pink when born, white when grown up, red when getting mad, green when getting sick and grey when you die. And you call me colored?
