Andu a Gikuyu,

I was in Nairobi the other day and I noticed something that cannot be explained.

Women drivers are simply not courteous, even when the traffic in their lane is moving at a snails pace and there is no advantage in refusing another driver (even a fellow female) to cross in front of them they will not give way.

At first I thought that its because I was driving an old beat up safari prepared 4x4 pick-up, then the same issue(s) cropped up when I was in a taxi and to crown it off, it still happened in a state of the art Ford Explorer, that had just left the showroom.

Who can explain this lack of courtesy where women drivers are concerned?

Oh and they want any other driver to give way promptly and will not even wave their thanks when you do.

Thank ‘Ngai’ that I do not have to suffer the punishment that is Nairobi traffic on a daily basis.

wa Mathira

Is it really the women or a common trend in nairobi? I think women have been mistreated so much by the male majority road users that they have just learnt to play the game.

i think when a woman driver is pushed off the road by a matatu driver or a taxi driver(they are also very arrogant drivers) they 'bite their finger, curse and swear' they will never give any male driver way! i have heard my sisters curse at them.

A matatu cuts in front of her and when another driver(male and not a matatu driver) drives so close to her akauga...'tarore muru wa nyina !nake Mad

Andu,

I obviously stand corrected … I thought it was me. I guess that they have been harassed over the years means that they will take the high ground and use their cars as ‘weapons of mass collision’ exactly as men use their vehicles.

I will not be back in Nairobi in a while and I thank Ngai for that.

I must apologise to all .... What I meant is that I will not be back in Nairobi in a while because I work in the distant North of the country and that I will avoid all Nbi drivers male and female.

Women Drivers

Hi, I personally think its a great idea to train women drivers. Women can drive just as well as men and i personally would love to see them not only drive cabs but also be employed by individuals for their families. Please let me know if any woman driver is looking for employment in Gurgaon. Thanks for doing such a wonderful deed for our society and helping us progress in the right direction.
