I have just read this sad story and kusema ukweli tears filled my eyes. I can see most of the forum members are in Kenya, i would really like to help this boy. Can any of you suggest a way? Try and get the boy's contacts perhaps? I shall write Nation and find out how i could get in touch. It says they were even mistreated by relatives so i dont know what is what? Is there any forum member who feels he or she could be an intermediary?

Police have arrested a woman and are searching for her husband for allegedly abandoning their two sons, while a five-year-old epileptic girl was rescued after being dumped at a neighbour’s house.

The mother of the two boys, whom local children’s officers found locked up in a cage, allegedly abandoned them four years ago at their home in Kamira Village in Murang’a district.
And the epileptic girl, the daughter of a prison warder in Murang’a, was found locked up in a neighbour’s house.
The neighbour said the mother of the girl had run away from home following persistent rows with her husband.

Her father was later found in a nearby illicit brew den and forced to go with the child to the children’s office in Murang’a town.
The woman in police custody is said to have deserted her matrimonial home after separating from her husband.
Consequently, the two boys, aged eight and 10 years, were left under the care of their 14-year-old brother, who dropped out of school to look after them.
However, relatives could not explain why the boys spend their days locked up in a filthy cage and are only freed at night for a few hours.
When officials from the children’s department went to the home last Friday, the two badly malnourished boys could not stand on their own legs and had to be supported. Their feet were infested with jiggers and their scaly bodies were covered in rashes.
They also had bruises they claimed were inflicted on them by a relative, whom villagers described as a drug addict.
Their 35-year-old mother admitted she left the home four years ago for Murang’a town, about 4km away, where she is said to have been living with another man.
She was picked by police in the town’s outskirts in Makuyu.
The whereabouts of the children’s father are unknown but the woman told the officers that she fled her matrimonial home after he reportedly deserted his family.
Said the district children’s officer Loise Gikuhi: “Our investigations indicate that the children were abandoned intentionally.”
Area District Officer Charles Muriithi said the children’s elder brother escaped through a fence when he saw the rescue team arriving at the home.
Villagers told the officers that some relatives barred them from attending to the boys.
They said the children’s life took a turn for the worst some years ago when a relative took to torturing them after their parents separated.
The boys were taken to the local district hospital where the officer in charge, Dr Ephantus Maree, said they were malnourished.
