"Looking to chat with people of Kikuyu hertiage. Visited Kenya in summer of 2007 and stayed with a family in Lake Navisha. Thanks Nanc" Silver Member

Good evening ~ community.
I have traveled to this find country of Kenya and it's amazing the beauty of it's people and the land. We were fortunate enough to stay with a Kikuyu family in Lake Navisha for just under a week this past summer. We will return in time.
But, I would like to have an open dialogue with this community as to what propelled some of you to leave this land and travel far away from your family. Is it economics, education, or endangerment of life itself. Any comments would be appreciated - I hope I am not over stepping myself on this issue. Look forward to chatting with you here on the message board.
I have looked at many of the response and replies and find the interaction invigorating. I would love to speak a little of the language but to be able to write ~ I think is not a possiblity for myself.
Earhartna, i am in kenya, have never left Kenya and wouldnt do so unless on work assignment or as a tourist. I think most people leave Kenya for Greener pastures or further Studies. They havent Left for good and their love for Kenya is like a mother's Love for a child. They are very proud to be Kenyans. ...so what's your nationality?

kweli. i too dont plan to stay around here. i can invest anywhere. iam a child of God, God owns the whole world, kenya america, britain, name them. i can be anywhere any time because the whole world belongs to my papa (God)
To me it doesnt matter where I , you or they were born, no one chooses the race, nationality etc, God does. we put boundaries as human beings; the reason why we cannot bear each other. where i am, am the only black and you know my skin is pretty dark..i feel unique, special and that i got something that many would wish to have..they are now asking if i would find them a black man to marry.
By the way blacks are very rare..they are being fought for..racism is the same as the discrimination we have back home, the way you feel about your brother who doesnt have as much money as you, mostly they are sidelined even in decision making. if you can overcome such, then we shall feel nothing if people think we are black.prove to them that you can, dont allow that thought(racism) cross your mind, pity them when they discriminate you...(because they do not know what they are doing. kama Jesus said (forgive them for they do not know what they are doing)
Stay blest

I am America 3rd generation my people hail from the likes of Poland and France on my mothers side - Mama Sandy. And, my father - god rest his soul - is 100% German. So, I am a mixed breed of European descent many years ago...
i think kenyans leave mostly for financial reasons, education or exile. given a chance i would go for few years, get the capital to offset me in kenya and then rush back n apply my enterpreneurial in kenya. i love u kenya. my country my love

So, Kenyan's leave to support their families in Kenya. I guess I don't understand how this can be when the cost to leave between Visas and air travel are so expensive. How can they afford the expense to leave and then have to find employment say in the States? This cannot be an easy task to achieve. I applaud those who do but I'm fascinated by the thought.
the level of unemployement is quite high. business is not very good as of now.one would rather spend all that and secure their families a living.as for me am out here for work and business. within one month i had been able to get back what i had spend on travel and visa. now what iam doing is earn for a few years not more than 5 then go back to my mother land. Few are lucky to get good jobs in Kenya and have succeeded in businesses, some of us have to spread our wings..Americans are also making a living in Thailand, so many of them as compared to other nationalities. I think its fun to move out adventure then come back.

But i think if one knows that they are spending money to be able to make more money.... many will give it a chance..hence those are counted like costs...which must be met to ensure that profits trickle in later! Apparently some people will leave for Adventure reasons...take for example some family friends we had who won a green card, they were wealthy and doing okay while here. They sold off their properties and left for the US. They had good Jobs here and had to quit.I dont know whether they are worse off or better off.. Hence the reasons are diverse and more so personal.they differ from one individual to the other. Hope this sheds more light Lucky Gal
before moi misrule of kenya, the only people who use to leave the country were academics and professionals who were obviously poached, or left in such of better greener fields
today's poor kenyans leave because economic reasons due to the effect and pressure of moi era misrule.
a big mojority, who are also mostly poor leave because of the false promise of a better life in the usa by USA government through its extremely aggressive marketting of its green card, visa etc. this is a money making scam if not a con game by USA goverment to con africa rich and middle class their money.
that is why, those who qualify for usa visa's normally have to show how much money they have in their bank accounts, the more money one have in their account the more likely hood of getting a visa. infact usa, uk etc countries perpetuating this scam normally let the applicaters know that they should have a certain level of amount in their bank account before any consideration of granting them visa is even considered.
another reason is that most kenyans expecially those who have never travelled to the west are lied through propaganda that western countries are just like being in heaven.
another reason is the old fad or believe that, if one has never visited the west s/he is primitive. infact in the past to the present moment aspiring politician or any leader capitalised on their travel to or being educated in the west. its still fashionable to visit usa or any country in the west. those who have visited these countries usually boast about it. thus creating a maddening urge for others to level the playing field by also visiting these places in order to boast also.
to conclude usa should tame its extremely aggresive visa and green card marketting which are cleary aimed at getting the money of those who have it,
a good point is those doctors and bussiness people who been coned of abandoning their succesful lives in kenya, just to end up washing dishes, sweeping streets and floors among other weird menial jobs they would never have imagined doing in their enternal life.
am sure most people here just like me have recived thousands of unsolisted internet and e-mail messages by usa government telling them that they are the lucky winners of a green card or visa to the usa. others are normally told their name were entered on they behalf by a duped friend or family member.
in west africa those who have visited or live in the usa or uk are consired more superior and richer. they get all the women or men. its the same for kenya and most third world countries.
why does the usa and the entire west keep complaining about migrant's but at the same time its involved in this massive and extremely aggressive campaing asking or infact forcing people to apply for usa green cards and visa?
Please, somebody help me on that one.
