Its not clear whether you are asking about joining the Kiam now or in the history of Gikuyu. I will settle for the history:
Gikuyu relio-political configuration was full of ciama. when boys were circumcised, they joined the Kiama gia kamatimu.(to defend the community. after there was mburi ya kiama which one gave to the elders after marriage to join the kiama kia athuri although this went on in stages.Kiama originally meant those set aside as the councilor put simply a council of elders. as stipulated, they graduted starting with the circumcision.only married men (mostly whose first borns had circumcisedor who had atleast a child would be accepted to the council of elders.they would pay the price of a goat or sheep.thus there would be; kiama kia mburi imwe, kiama kia muthigi(lower caste, kiama kia matathi, until one reached the kiama kia maturanguru(the highest council)within the traditional Gikuyu.
once you understand the history of kiama, you will find out that it can not be against Christianity. my only criticism would be the fact that the poor people could not possible reach or be considered as part of the inner circle of the highest order of religio-poliical council.

Who married the Nine(ten daughters)
This is a myth to explain the Gikuyu origin to compliment other scientific findings. like any other myth, it not concerned with a three dimensional scrutiny (archeology) of the story. its concerned to answer the fundamental question: where did the Gikuyu people come from? How did they occupy the place they are in? how can you appropriate the land the Gikuyu historically owned. Thus it will never explain who married the nine(ten daughters) of Mumbi.
To me, this is a great story, the Adam and eve of the Gikuyu and thus Gikuyu history can be placed alongside the history of other great civilisation.

To cut the story short, its not only kuria mburi.there are lot of stuff to be followed.Mundu atuika muthuuri atuikaga mundu mwamure n its quite tight.
