Dear all,
In a meeting we had in Nairobi (as is/will be reported elsewhere), members present felt the need to give back to the society part of what we have in a goodwill gesture. We resolved to be visiting a children's home/home for the old periodically to offer support to these needy cases.
We will kick off this resolution on July 7, 2007 by visiting Huruma Children's Home, located in Ngong. Our target is to donate the following:
- Food (Maize, beans, unga...)
- Sanitary towels/pads
- Clothes
Huruma Children's Home has over 150 kids with their age ranging from months to high school going kids. It's sponsored by a Kenyan couple who live together with the kids.

We are appealing to well-wishers to come support us in this endeavour by donating whatever you can both materially and financially. We welcome individual as well as corporated donations. We will highly appreciate if you could also accompany us to Ngong on July 7. Please let us know what you can donate.

Blessed is the hand that giveth, than the one that taketh. God bless you as you plan to assist.

Ngunjiri

I will support this initiative. Give us the details. This kind of an idea beats the hell out of meeting just to eat and drink.

1ST AGENDA: MOMBASA TRIP:

-The proposed date for the Mombasa trip is departure 22nd Thursday travel back Sunday 25th November 2007. Members have been asked to make arrangements for off/leave on Friday 23rd.

-Mbugua proposed that we travel by train (1st class) as it’s more enjoyable. In the same breath we agreed that Mbugua will do the homework of finding out the costs involved.

-Wamaitu; Wagithuri and Madam Mtwapa Smiler will make arrangements for our accommodation.

- Members agreed that we start a kitty beginning end of this month. Members who plan to go single handedly will contribute KSH 1000 and members who are couples will contribute KSH 2000 each month till November. By end of November the members who will have contributed will each have KSH 6000 or KSH 12000 respectively. This money will be given back to members come November.
The treasurer of the kitty is Mr. Ngunjiri; the decision was arrived at that due to the fact he doesn’t drink alcohol hence temptation is minimal to “swallow” members’ money. Big Grin All members who are interested in this trip are very much welcome; will give an enquiry email address shortly.

PS: Wanji; we regret this trip will be done in November; however when you come to Nairobi in June; members agreed we shall have a mini get together for your sake.

2nd AGENDA: WAY FORWARD FOR KIKUYU.COM MEMBERS
It was agreed that apart from having get together’s where we just eat and drink; we felt the need to give back to society. Members agreed that the best way to do so is by contributing to charity. A few homes were suggested but we identified the neediest which is Huruma children’s Home.

Members intend to take unperishable foods, Sanitary Towels; clothes and shoes.

The proposed date for this noble cause will be 1st weekend of July Saturday 7th in the afternoon. We recommend that members to have made their contributions by 30th of June so that we have time to do adequate planning of the budget.
The planning of the budget will be done on Monday the 2nd of July; in the evening 6:00 pm at Eateries Restaurant.

PS: Mbugua kindly remember to ask about how to go about corporate charity sponsorship.

-All members are requested to ask for contributions from friends and family to make this project a big big success. The contributions will be recived by Ngunjiri yet again.

NB: Ngunjiri kindly tell members how they can contact you.

In the same breadth; a suggestion was forwarded by Wagatere and seconded by all members present that we could make t-shirts for occasions such as the one we are planning with the words “KYUK.COM” only.

AOB:

Wangu took off without informing members and we thought maybe he had fallen asleep in the gents. Wangu we we we!! Am sure you won’t do that next time….You know the consequences.

CONLUSION:

we trust that we shall receive the co-operation needed in the above projects. The treaurer-Mr. Ngunjiri had put foward a humble request that members should make a point of contributing on time without having to be constantly reminded.

ADJOURNMENT:

The meeting adjourned at about 11:00 p.m where members were free to go on with their indulgences.

Everybody have a great week ahead!! Wink

Ngunjiri,

Do you have a paypal account? If you do not, is there anyone who does that we can send the funds to?

Best,

Boss

Thanks to all of you who have responded to this appeal. It's really touching to see this response, it's encouraging to see that spirit willingness to assist.

Just as a reminder, our visit is on July 7, 2007 in Ngong. We are welcoming whatever you have for those needy destitute children.

Boss,
I don't have a paypal account (i don't know anyone who has either) but you can use either Western Union or Money Gram which are relatively efficient.
Jane,

Hi,

I just heard from the webmaster. Donations from the US can be sent by paypal to webmaster@kikuyu.com. The funds will then be wired to a willing member in Kenya (e.g., Ngunjiri if he willaccept Western Union?).

Best,

Boss
