Kikuyus are not as numerous as they thought they were.

Somali numbers are inflated and quite disturbing.

Including tribe and religion was a masterpiece.

Those male chauvinists who used to brag that the male/female ration was 1:3 in order to justify polygamy and promiscuity should hide their heads in shame.

Sajini,

I trust you dont believe this figures even for a second. The question on ethinicity was not asked to many people (me included). The surest way to be laughed out of the city is to imagine for a moment that turkanas are now 1 m and kenya somalis 2.3m. And isnt it funny we refer to Sonmalis as kenya somalis? should we also refer to kaleos as Muranga kalenjins or subukia luos? And why release the results 1 year later?

There are 38.6 million reasons why these figures could have been skewed one way or another. You would have to be overly gullible to take at face value anything that comes from a government in which an invisible hand inserts words into a draft constitution and nobody gets caught. Having said that, I think we can all agree on which the majority tribe is. It also happens to be the tribe with least power or influence.

1.The Have: where you find names like Uhuru, Raila, Kalonzo, Kibaki, Saitoti, Moi etc > 0.6m

2.The Have-Not: here you'll find Wanjiku, Chebet, ya Mbogo, Kyalo, Akinyi, Maina, Kirui, Sajini, Onyango, Mayaka, wa Igoti, etc < 38m

You can bet your measly pay-check that in the upcoming presidential elections we will be presented with 4-5 names to choose from, all males and all from the same tribe.

Well put Njau ya Mbogo.
I still think it was the right thing to include ethnicity. We should not be ashamed about out ethnic affiliation. The worst we can do is to push ethnic sentiments under the rug. Our problem has always been the preoccupation with the dangers of negative ethnicity. It need not be that way. My believe is that ethnicity can be harnessed to enrich our human experience rather than being a source of strife.

That said, there is no difference between the aspirations of all the Kenyan Wanjikus, just as there is no difference between the fatcats irrespective of their ethnic affiliations. The ill-conceived KAMATUSA and KKK talks are testimony to that.
