Luckygal,
No Hillbilly is not used in Keenya. I just picked it up to identify with where I live. Just four hours drive from Cleveland. We are in the same state Smiler. I guess I will write you an email

In the states it is slang for a mountain type person who lacks certain social and economic graces in society. I think that is a diplomatic way to cite it. Anyway, yes you are close to me. If you are 4 hours from Cleveland. When I get done with these paper, I have plans to visit all the Kikuyu's who held formulate my thoughts for this paper. I consider us friends with a bond - I may not be a Kikuyu but I want to understand what makes a Kikuyu unique. What makes them stand tall and pround to be a part of this special community.

Chat with you all soon...

Luckygal,
I am well aware of those connotations, but on the opposite, you can romanticize the simplicity of the Hillbilies and turn it into something positive or sexy. Take Bush and Gore's 2000 campaign for instance, or Bush and Kerry 2004. The two democrats could show their intelligence and sophistication, but Bush still came out as the down to earth guy with whom you would like to share a keg. Big Grin
