I just read in the "Buzz" Magazine online the folowing and am wondering if it's true:
Source: "Buzz", Sunday, 18/03/07

"Trouble at KTN?
First it was Louise otieno, then swaleh Mdoe followed in his footsteps and now rumors are rife that Catherine Kasavuli could soon reading Citizen news at 10 instead of Ktn. it seems s.M. Macharia has opened his fat wallet
again as all these stars are rumored to be headed to the Royal Media station. inside sources at Ktn claim that Otieno and Mdoe resigned from the station but the circumstances surrounding Catherine’s rumored forthcoming departure (previously thought to be untouchable at the station) remain unclear. if they all end
up at Citizen then Ktn will surely remain with a skeleton staff with observers talking of trouble at the station."

Haiya!

If it is true, then as you say "KTN will surely remain with a skeleton staff with observers talking of trouble at the station."

In my experience, from working with them, and the others - things go up and things go down, same people go back and forth.
It would be nice if each of them competitors could concentrate on developing their own profile and staff instead of trying to grab from the other. In that way, Kenya will have several serious newsgroups in the future.
And not to forget, bring in new faces and management people, just don't work on the old material. Kenya is full of good reporters etc.

Well said Nini. For once we agree that "recycle" is not always good. We need fresh faces, innovative ideas, and diffrent styles.

However, let us not forget that journalists are professionals who do not know of any other way of making their living. If the working environment ain't right, ain't they got no right to see better sell hawk their wares elsewhere?

Very true Sajini and Reality is a question of perspective the further you get from the past, the more concrete and plausible it seems but as you approach the present it inevitably seems incredible.

....the chickens have come home to roost.
KTN 'stole' mdoe and louis from nation just like Nation 'stole' Nimrod from KTN. If S.K. Macharia wants to improve his Media House( coz it really was down and boring) then let him do so legally and ethically (which he is ). He is also improving the lives of these news catsers! Gíikaro kímwe kírí ndaa. I hail royal media

I have always wondered what a small world our Kenmyan Media world is....reporters,newscaters and Radio hosts and hostesses have been criss crossing the media houses like a hunter in the jungle.some ,though have ended up messing up their careers. the media houses have also been hiring guys who have little time for Moral ethics.....promoting immorality on Radio.what a shame.

I thoroughly second you Nini!! Fresh faces would probably have better and more innovative ideas. Besides...I don't think SM is out to improve the media industry in Kenya; he's a man of questionable character from his prevoius past and I think he's out to avenge for himself! Sometime back quite a number of his staff had been poached by a reputable media house so I guess its all about sweeeeeeeeeet revenge for him!

It seems like poaching is the name of the game. But Kasavuli at Citizen. I thought her 3rd name (after Catherine Kasavuli) is KTN!

We are a capitalist country. All goods are in the market. Let the best win, the large amount of money. If SK can make more money by poaching from other media houses and other media houses can make more money by poaching from Royal Media and Kasavuli can make more money by being poached, what is the problem? At least, it is a win-win situation for the media houses and the journalists.

Papa Daad,
Much as I agree with you on majority of what you have said, I doubt this will be a win situation for KTN minus those newsmen and women. Those are the pple behind KTN's success. Oh well, it will be a win situation for Royal Media (not that am complaining)

Looking back to when Royal Media was at Anniversary Towers, I can't help to marvel at how quick fortunes can turn. Anyone remember the ugly pictures that were flashed to us of security men dragging SK on the floor of his office in the name of arresting him? And that was after confisticating his broadcasting equipment!

Wakanyugi,
Yes, it is the most widely viewed station in the country. They (Royal Media) say it also reaches Tz and Ug.
A friend of mine said, "Citizen is like Celtel, well covered around the country but not popular"

Kariuki,
Ethics, too, are nothing but reverence for life. This is what gives me the fundamental principle of morality, namely, that good consists in maintaining, promoting, and enhancing life.
Personally, I have nothing against work, particularly when performed, quietly and unobtrusively, by someone else. I just don't happen to think it's an appropriate subject for an "ethic."

I do agree with most of ur contributions but also remeba that in any kind of employment job satisfaction is very important to both employer and employee. For employee to be satisfied there should be motivation and this is what drives employees to maintain their current job n if its not sufficient in KTN and can be provided by S.K Macharia who r we to say no, to me thats a fair deal lets not look on one side of the coin that is what will happen to KTN coz now the market is free n its survival for the fittest

It wasnt a suprise for Loius since he had done it before but for kasavuli and swale, there seems to be some problem at KTN since the Swalehs saga of him not being a kenyan.but as they say its all about the side of the bread that is buttered.
