| quote: Thanks for the insight. But just out of curiosity, is housefly the same as fruitfly. Why fruitfly
they are not the same, but they belong to the same order (like kingdom, phylum, class, order, family etc in classification) called diptera which houseflies also belong. infact if you are not keen you might think its a housefly. fruits are part of their foods..

| Wa kariuki, Hi we anga wimuthomu muno. Riu giki githungu hihi ningumenya. Anga nikiarituha muno.Get me the scientific name of Kanyutu (cheetah). I will change my name to it for a start. Somebody told me human beings are animals, what then is their scientific name? Ans by the way, what dou call a cheetah cub in Kikuyu? I might consider naming my children after a cheetah cub (equivalent of a kanyutulet). Do a male and female cub share the same name. is it the case for a grown male and female cheetah(Cheetahless or Kanyutuless ?)

| Acinonyx jubatus that is the scientific name for cheetahs. hope you pronounce it well, they are usually very tricky at times. for men i think its homo sapiens. the scientific names are for cheetahs regardless of the sex just like for men are. in kikuyu? am not sure, but i have a feeling Ngunjiri would know this or any other person for that matter.

| By the way. I was not so clear in here before. Reg names. I think you shall stop using english names. Try greek or something. But not english. Or try swedish style. Quite logical tradition. Ericsson = The son of Eric Mariasdotter = The daughter of Maria Son y Ericsson And then you add a first name to that. Nyokabi Kariukisdotter. Kamau Nyogusson. Chaka Zulusson Zulusson Gathoni Cucusson Gathia Pumbasson Does not work for Mr Daniel though. Moi SOB

| As the kikuyu saying goes "ritwa ni mbokio" To me a name is nothing but a label to package myself. When I lived in Kenya, I went by my Kikuyu name. Here in the US I go by the english name because I got tired of people asking me to spell it every time. Or worse I hated hearing my name all mangled up. A side benefit to having an english name in the US are the economic benefits. Your resume gets taken seriously, and allows you a chance to get a face to face interview. Life is hard enough for a black person in this land of the free, why make it harder? That said I am proud of my heritage..and worship Ngai wa Kirinyaga.

| On the contrary I use the same name I used to use back home as I use here! I believe your name reflects on who you are,it defines to a greater extent what you are. Here I see almost everyone do use english names, for they are not christian at all for if they were english then all europeans should have common names huh? It is one religion?Am glad in this forum there are those who are ready to take back our lost heritage!Keep your african names they are great, authentic and true to your land!

| I hear interesting theories on why people use english names at the expense of African names. Key among them is that getting a job in western capitals is hard if you have a funny name. I wonder how true this is.Does it mean if i wanted to get a job in china, Russia or India i would have to acquire chinese, Russian or Indian name?? I highly doubt. How then do all those nigerians get high profile jobs in western capitals with their original African names?? I know of many friends of mine who have gotten good jobs abroad without having to change their African names. I am talking of hundreds if not thousands of people.
