instead of people who are sitting their behinds in western capitals and denigrating their senior politicians, why not go to Kenya and seek out those whom you dont want to perform any ceremony like this.

The reason is simple eldership like respect is earned not confered. Raila will always be a Luo elder if he is.

All of them still remained National Leaders.

Jomo Kenyatta was made a Kikuyu elder and remained a statesman. Kenyatta was made a Luo and Luyia elder and remained a statesman.

Dick Wathika has put the whole thing in perspective,Raila has to follow a very long procidure that includes firts being made a Kikiyu (by symbolicaly being born in a Kikuyu home).
He has also clarified that the purported installers are themselves not elders and therefore lacking capacity.

Eldership is not a matter of just waking up one day and saying "now my friend i want to make you a Kikuyu elder"
Eldership is a culmination of processes not a goodie.

Raila should just give up his quest as I do not see any probable mileage he would gain

Kikuyu elders are willing to install Prime Minister Raila Odinga as a Kikuyu elder if only he is ready to adhere to certain conditions.

The community elders however criticized some people whom they accused of proclaiming to be elders yet they are not recognized by the community.

The elders were speaking in Mithonge area Dagoretti during a ceremony on Saturday to install Kikuyu elders.

The leaders say according to Kikuyu customs, one must go through three main stages before he is declared an elder.

They explained that a goat is slaughtered at every stage as elders gather to celebrate and bless the man.

They said Raila has demonstrated statesmanship and he is worthy, but advised him not to be misled by self-proclaimed elders who are not recognized as Kikuyu elders.
