It's about TIME!!! Kibaki is disrespecting his own people, let alone Kenyans!!!

By Kipkirui K’Telwa

Constitutional affairs Minister Martha Karua has resigned from the Cabinet.

She becomes the first Cabinet minister to quit the grand coalition government.

Her resignation, which occurred while President Kibaki is on a foreign trip, could further rock the coalition government that is smarting from last weekend collapsed talks between the two principal partners.

Tendering her resignation on Monday afternoon, Karua hinted to the media that she chose to quit after realising that she could not execute her duties owing to frustrations from other quarters.

The handling of reforms and the manner of appointment of judges by President Kibaki could have compelled the Gichugu MP to call quits.

Karua came into the political limelight in 1992 multiparty elections, when she was elected MP for Gichugu on a Democratic Party ticket.

The minister believes that her docket has been countermanded by the Office of the President, as she was shunted aside before new judges were picked and sworn-in at a ceremony at State House, Nairobi while she was on a foreign trip.

"What does one expect when one’s mandate is recalled? I will take the next step as I cannot be just a spokesperson of Justice," she told The Standard on Sunday nigh.

During the disputed 2007 presidential elections, Karua came out as a strong defender of President Kibaki’s re-election. And even as violence rocked the country on the evening of December 30, following Kibaki’s swearing in ceremony at State House lawn, Karua dared the disgruntled ODM party chiefs to go to court. To paraphrase one H.R.C, the only real man in this so called "coalition" gov just happens to be a woman. And just like that, Mrs Wangari Karua you've earned my respect.

May those that love us, love us. And those that don't love us, may God turn their hearts. And if He doesn't turn their hearts, may He turn their ankles so that we'll know them by their limping.

A while ago, Martha Karua was the devil in disguise, especially among the Orangemen. Now, she is a hero. Why do we always fall for these cheap stunts by our politicians.

It is no secret that Karua's anger stems from her feeling of marginalization in the succession equation. Her intent to be the NARC-Kenya torchbearer has failed to gather steam. She can easily see herself becoming irrelevant in 2012. The only option left is to claim a moral high ground by resigning.

I applaud her courage, but I am not hoodwinked. She nurtured the monster, and when it turns on her, she cries foul. She does not deserve our pity, but scorn.

Good riddance madam! I hope your plight will be a warning to other self serving politicians who step on other people's toes on their way up. And now that you are falling with a thud, you expect out pity? What now remains is for Gichugu people to get rid of you in 2012. If you are courageous enough, join 'other like minded reformists' in ODM.

Karua, You will never pull a Charity Ngilu.

By Standard Online

Medical Services Assistant minister Danson Mungatana has resigned from the Cabinet. He becomes the second high ranking Narc-Kenya legislator to quit the coalition government after Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister Martha Karua also called quits on Monday.

Both resignations occurred while President Kibaki is out of the country attending head of states conference in Lusaka, Zambia

Wangari Karua is good leader for those of you who claim to have expansive memories unlike us do remember fondly of her gallant fight for justice, democracy and multipartism.Just because she doesn't belong to the 'party of like minded reformist' who all belong to jail in the Hague can't reduce her great job and a deserved stake for presidency!
She is a hero and a role model for many of our mothers, sisters, daughters she deserves respect and Gichugu people have validated her political existence and exemplary leadership by overwhelming support;I would think this compounded by many awards she has won including Jurist of the year award should serve as an indicator to most of us but then not.
Her resignation stems from a clique of male chauvinists and a social class who are hell bent on maintaining that status quo by appointing one of their own as the next 'mt. Kenya leader' in the name of Uhuru Kenyatta who has little to show of his public service! Am baffled by Kibaki's lack of loyalty to his most loyal lieutenant but then only for a second for this has been his trademark style of leadership;abandoning those who propped him up including the suffering IDPs in the rift valley! You see Kibaki has never had to sweat for his 'success' things fall in place for him cia korire Wacu mugunda!

the chips are down! let us await next week (parliament opening) and see if the resignation will have any impact! timing is everything, and Martha resigned too early. she will be a footnote by 2012. she had the opportunity to steer the reform agenda, but now she has left us at the mercy of the sharks!

Jambo All,

If Karua wants to quit the feeding trough ..... she should have also quit her parliamentary seat ... all we are going to do AGAIN is fixate on politics ... forgetting there are IDP's ... there is a famine stalking this land ..... we need to develop .... infrastructure .... education ... financial controls ..... medical services ... what have i left out ... if she wants to quit let here go she is just one of the many politicians who should GO.

Wa Mathira,
You are very right. Karua has passed her sell by date. Can anyone talking about her gallant fight in teh 1990s tell me why Wangari Maathai or Kenneth Matiba are not president, PM or MP?

If Karua is a principled person, she should resign her seat the late Steve Mwangi way.

Karua rekei tuone mbele,

Mimi nafikirie kwamba huyu mama expected alot in the government, she is a woman who expected that kibaki will clean everything and kenya will be a country where every one will admire.

ofcourse kibaki was capable, and had the means but he's surrounded by old urgly ****** greedy boys, and you know, kibaki himself behaves like a woman who cannot make quike decissions eti ni mtu wa busara, mimi nadhani kenya inahitaji kiboko ili kuiweka kwenye mstari, wananchi lazima tuweke displine kwa sababu hawa watu wamekuwa bure kabisa.

Kama tuna mapenzi na nchi yetu, kwanini hawa wanaume wasipumzike, tumpe karua tuone naya mama atatufikisha wapi,i think men don deserve statehouse 2012
