Brainless people are sending out mindless emails and sms to woo voters to elect a particular presidential candidate come the December elections.

Just when I was beginning to think that Kenyans have finally come of age as one big happy family, the tribal guff has started to spewing out of our closets.

Perhaps you have received an sms that reads like this; “...we cannot allow leadership that we fought for many years to slip from us. It is even worse to lose it from the backward and uncircumcised person after having cattle-rustlers rule for 24 years. Come out in defence of the Mumbi crown...”

Circumcision. Backward. Cattle-rustlers. To use such words to marshal tribal support is just but an asinine campaign. If it is the work of saboteurs seeking to hype hatred towards a particular tribe, the tactic is still unacceptable.

The wafting Mumbi propaganda reeks of tribal prejudice and biases that have no logical basis. The circulating tribal messages dampen the spirits of those not interested to toe that line.

Kimani, i have been receiving such messages but i delete them as soon as i read the first few lines. They are not worth any right minded person's time. there was this other one that claimed the house of mumbi has set aside billions of shillings to purchase Safaricom shares for their Kin.....Anyone who's been participating in the recent IPO's know that this isnt possible. Its plain crap.just ignore such messages. We are a mature lot!

Its Sad that people are still in this kind of crap,i hate those sms and the way this things are criss crossing, add the media biases to it,Its time for us to get worried. If u havent been (un)lucky to get one, there is still time,They started during the 2005 referendum, they were flying all over and i think its dangerous.Who told them that just because a kikuyu is in power we are more advantaged than others? Its both sad and dangerous!

I agree with you Mwangi, I Received a tribal mail and I categorically told the person to remove me from such mails coz i dont think we should advocate thinking on tribal lines....As you say...it is so so sad.

Down with tribalism.

If these guys have nothing to tell the people apart from evoking tribal loyalties, let them take it elsewhere. When these guys are having a good time, they dont share with us. Yes, let us reject being used as pawns of tribal barons

Sajini,

You will not believe what happened last night.

I was busy getting myself ready for a busy day when from out of the blue I received an sms of the type that is engineered to cause nothing but tribal strife.

Of course I did not reply to the nonsense and deleted the trivia immediately.

Because I did not reply to the sms, I got a call from a person who I consider a distant friend, berating me for not replying to his sms and promising that he will buy meat and beer in the near future to get me to support Kibaki

This supposed friend is in a number of courts for embezzling CDF funds and is using ill-gotten funds to try and cover his leopard spots.

If my experience is anything to go by, only God can help this country, because whoever wins in 2007 will simply carry on ‘same old, same old’
