Big GrinGikuyu nikiega muno kuri andu othe. (Kikuyu is good to all people). No woder every other tribe knows a bit of Kikuyu. I think it should be made a national - social language. However even those born Kikuyus don know much Kikuyu themselves. So if somebody would like to learn Kikuyu, where should they start.
Ni Gikuyu giaku kiega, Muranga, Nyeri or Kiambu. Kana ni Kirinyaga?

Nyumba

There is no kikuyu better than the other.

All there is is that people settled diffrently in their groups formed their o secuence and pronounciation of words.

All the same we are all the same but for example the Kiambu's feel that the Kirinyaga's
are Twisting their words (KUOGORA.

THE REASON WHY VERY MANY OTHER TRIBES KNOW ABIT OF OUR LANGUAGE IS THAT WE KIKUYUS HAVE SPREAD OUT SO MUCH THAT WE ARE VIRTUALLY EVERYWHERE AND WE ALWAYS WANT TO SPEAK IN OUR OWN LANGUAGE WHEREVER WE ARE.
So much that we speak kikuyu to other tribes beleiving that they can understand but on the contrary they dont BUT they grasp a word or two in the perticular conversation.

i believe its bad habit to talk to anyone and everyone in your language like they belonged to your tribe. there is a sying that goes " every kikuyu man believes that any brown and beautiful girl must be kikuyu"
so you approach even a Jamaican lady with "wimuthaka muno" Mad

Mugikuyu,
You have reminded me a day I saw 2 wazungu ladies walking in Nairobi town and they happened to pass by the matatus no. 23 (to Buru). So the makanga saw them approaching and he was like, "Wangechi inyui ni muguthii Buru buru?"

yes you do. Big Grin but we all do the same thing.

although, kikuyus have been successful in getting many people to speak their language.i guess its cuz of their great numbers.

Mugikuyu, this is for you; why did you choose that avatar?
and speaking of avatars, they are cool but i'd prefer to have my real photo up.maybe people want to stay strangers to other guys forever..i dont. just a thought.

Maria Wairimu,
That name is good. Do you know where it originated or what it means? Mugikuyu should be able to help.

Mugikuyu,
Big Grin Big Grin ndugathekie (don't make laugh - for Maria's sake). That name doesn't have a link with marimu (giants, ogres). Wairimu or Gathigia was one of the nine daughters of Gikuyu and Mumbi. This is where the clan, "Agathigia kana Airimu" originated from.

Wairimu,
Sorry I have gone a bit deep to the history of Gikuyu community but I hope you understand what I mean. This makes your name very valuable and significant.

Ngima,
am sure your mama didnt have "the monkey" in mind when she was naming you. I think she was following traditions like we all do which brings me to my question:
should we stick to the names we are given at birth or sholud we have the freedom to choose?

PS: my mum tells me that i was to be named Githendui but she refused. ever heard of such a name?
