Yes you are right, you can not eat your own totem otherwise you will be eating 'yourself' and thus killing your spirit. there are speculations that Gikuyu as a group had a totem of a fish but little research had been done on this. in deed, only one scholar H.E. Lambert has written about it. scholars like Leaky, Cagnolo, or Hobley and so it remains only a speculation. Dr. Matthew karangi
