The closest word meaning "community" in gigikuyu is "itura". It's not an exact translation, but I think it comes closest. I stand corrected.

community to me are people of an area hence Muingi(wa itura fulani) or people with common interest or heritage hence ruruka (I go with Sajini) I would say itura is a place not people eg Andu a itura ria.... or itura ritiri na thayu I could be wrong

Muru wa Wangui, Ituura is right one I think.Ituura is derived from tuura which means live. Gutuura means to live. Ituura thus means place of dwelling(living) usually by more than a single family. Ituura ria Kiandu means the Kiandu community. Ituura ria Ndeffo riti hakaguo macuru!-->Don't mess with Ndeffo community. Ituura also means a place depending on the context. Kiandu ni ituura riega muno na ithaka ma.Kiandu is a beautiful and nice place. Mbari ya Kang'ethe would mean Kang'ethe's commune(usually descendants from one common paternal ancestor).
Wakia wakini? Wi muhoro?

Ngeithi andu a nyumba, To me the closest to "community" would be "kamuingi" - from "muingi". The object prefix "ka-" would denote belonging to the people. Ni ngatho Muturi muno ndagaga
